Over the next few weeks we are hoping to bring you a bit of an update on what some of our members have been up to over the summer. Some of our church family traveled far from home, others were a bit more local. Today we start with looking at one of the first events that took place at the end of June. Here’s Abbi to tell us more .

Summer Madness is a big Christian festival for young people in Glenarm Estate. Christian youth groups and individuals go and camp there for 5 days at the start of summer. It is a packed schedule  activities, seminars and workshops to keep you busy during the day.

This year the theme of the festival was ‘Truth to Dare’ encouraging young people to dare to answer God’s call and speak out for what they believe in.

There are over 1500 people at the festival so there is a lot of organisation and management needed for the event to run smoothly. There are around 500 volunteers to help with this. We are all split up into groups and have different roles. I am the co-ordinator of the Event Crew. This is a group of people who have the job of making sure each of the events and venues are safe and looked after. This includes clicking in and out the number of people in each tent to ensure they don’t go over capacity, manning the fire doors, checking wristbands and helping run some of the activities.

This year I had 60 people in the Event Crew which was brilliant because normally there are only around 40 but an American team of 20 from Oklahoma came over and joined our team as part of their mission trip. This was an answer to prayer because in previous years we have been very tight for volunteers.

My team all worked very well together this year and were all so willing and enthusiastic even when it came to the not so glamorous jobs of cleaning the showers or replenishing the toilet roll! The Event Crew team is a lot of fun because we are so involved in all of the events and get to go to most of the Main Stage worship and seminars etc so it is a great way to get immersed in the festival while still helping and serving others.

We are always looking for more people to join our team so if you would be interested in joining the Summer Madness Staff for next year then you can find out more information here

Thank you so much to everyone who prayed for me while I was volunteering at Summer Madness!
